A late escape, especially now the weather has turned, is just what the doctor ordered. Laura and partner Paul, with limited options chose to head to Paphos in Cyprus.
Here’s Laura’s story…
We booked our holiday a week before departure, knowing we would have to book a Covid-19 PCR swab test. Cyprus requires all British citizens to produce a negative Covid-19 certificate within 72 hours prior to boarding as the UK is listed as a category B.
There were various options of Covid PCR testing but to be on the safe side, we opted for a a face to face swab as opposed to a kit being sent through the door. All very easy and straight forward.
Is this the best time to fly?
Masks on! Check-in wasn’t busy. We had a two minute wait and were asked to see our negative Covid certificate, Cyprus Flight Pass and passports. At the Aspire Lounge, cutlery was given when we arrived and a QR code to produce the menu and service to your table. No aimlessly walking around and nibbling at various pastries! Its was very quiet!!!
The Flight – what were the differences?
We boarded a Dreamliner – fantastic surprise! As the flight was only a third full, it meant passengers were well spaced out from one another. Announcements were made all the time, making sure face masks were on and that all passengers understood the drill! With no food and drinks menus to view, announcements were made of menu choices and at seat service was normal. No more than two people at a time could queue for the toilet. No duty free on offer and apart from that, the flight was smooth and efficiently run. No drama. Easy peasy. Of course our main focus was just getting to our destination and enjoying our much needed escape together.
Arrival at Paphos Airport
Before and at passport control your negative Covid certificate and Fit to Fly pass will be checked before you are waived through. Cypriots can also spot check upon arrival, so you may have to have another test. Pretty painless and no spot checks for us!
Our package included a private transfer and within 20 minutes we’d arrived at the gorgeous Amavi 5 star hotel to check-in.
The Amavi Hotel!
What a hotel! Located just a ten minute walk from the harbour, the adult-only Made-for-Two Amavi, boasts three swimming pools, Evera Spa, Health Club, hair salon, three bars and four restaurants (three of which are a la carte) We loved the seven course tasting menu at Nocturne and the out-of-this-world cocktails at Selene Bar. Our half board plus option provided access to the four restaurants and either a bottle of wine or a limited number of beers and wine pp per night.
All bedrooms have sea views as standard. Upgraded rooms can consist of a private pool or dual aspect views. We had a lead in room type, a spacious Deluxe Sea View with large balcony. The contemporary space was well thought out with open aspect bathroom and great storage. Just as well as I always over pack!
What we did on our holidays!
Days were spent relaxing by the pool, swimming up to the bar, hiking to the Caledonian Waterfalls and enjoying fantastic views from the Troodos mountains. But most of the week was spent visiting PAWS animal shelter just 10 minutes from the hotel.
Shaggy Dog Story
Adopting a dog had been high up on our bucket list for this year which lockdown postponed somewhat. Recently we had unsuccessful visits to various dog shelters in the UK but when Paul’s sister mentioned PAWS in Paphos we had to check it out whilst there. A few days into our trip we met Luna. This beautiful one year old Lab melted our hearts and whilst a little unsure of us at first, she did so want to be with us. Paul sat in the other corner of the room from me and she made her way over to him and nuzzled in to his chest…we knew she belonged with us. We visited Luna the next morning and she remembered us, giving us kisses and zoomies. Every morning until we departed, we started the day by walking Luna. The process of getting her to the UK has started and we’re hoping to have our little ray of sunshine at home by the end of October.
